‘Craggsy’ ~ 1st Up North Combine Roye 7,146 birds….
- What a hen! bred by Terry Craggs and expertly raced by Bell and Wormleighton…One of the very best in recent times!
Once in a while, a Champion comes along that deserves such a title. Many others are called ‘Champions’ however do not have the results to really warrant the respect real Champions deserve.
One such Champion is the checker hen ‘Craggsy’ bred by Terry Craggs and expertly prepared and raced raced by the top class Sunderland partnership Bell and Wormleighton. We ourselves are very proud to be associated with the bloodline of this super hen through her father bred by Brian Clennan of Whitby.
As a youngster she already gave notice that she was something different racing in the strong Sunderland Premier Federation winning 2nd Club 12th Fed Oakham, 2nd Club 5th Fed Peterborough, 7th Club 19th Fed Rivenhall and 1st Club 6th Fed Bubwith.
As a yearling she scored 3rd Club 9th Fed Oakham then she moved up a gear from Eastbourne winning 1st Club,1st Federation, 1st Section 4, 3rd Open Up North Combine against 18,257 birds ,3rd N.E.H.U. Open 26,042 birds from almost 300 miles. She arrived with her loft mate just a fraction behind her to also take 4th Open! Remarkably the pigeon that was second Open in this same race was also bred by Brian Clennan and raced by Sayers Brothers and is similar bloodline as ‘Craggsy’ , being bred from the nest sister to War Drum, therefore a granddaughter of Drum.
A few weeks after her success from Eastbourne ‘Craggsy’ was prepared and sent to Roye a distance of just over 400 miles where she won 1st Club,1st Federation,1st Section 4 and 1st Open Up North Combine against 7,106 birds. (In the NEHU Queens Cup Open she was beaten into second place against 9,605 birds by a great pigeon flown by Wade Brothers in the WDA).
So within a few weeks as a yearling she won 3rd Open Up North Combine Eastbourne 18,257 birds and 1st Up North Combine Roye 7,106 birds.
As for her bloodline, she was bred by Terry Craggs the well respected North East fancier from a Heremans Ceusters hen when she was coupled to a cock from Brian Clennan also containing original Hermans Ceusters bloodlines crossed with Caliph,Drum,Hannibal etc… I understand Terry has not been in the best of health recently so we hope this may do him some good.
‘Caliph’ was bred from ‘Reza’ a brother of ‘Drum’ by Marijke Vink and he has an excellent record for breeding early prizes in the Up North Combine. ‘Craggsy’ is bred from a grandson, a son bred Davey Barron and Sons 1st UNC Maidstone Classic against 14,153 birds and a grandson bred Tony Trattles 1st UNC Lillers winner against 11,300 birds. Plus many other turns.
