I had a telephone conversation with Mr Phil Bond of Plymouth a few weeks ago regarding his phenomenal super breeding pair. This couple are a cock bred by the late Dale Newcombe of Macmerry fame and a hen from our ‘Blue Diamond’ ‘Marita’, ‘Blue Spirit’ and ‘Asterix’ bloodlines that was bred by the Wincham Jets, Derek and Marjorie Woodward, and were both purchased from the auction after a Europa Classic One Loft Race  a few years ago.

Phil had decided to re  enter the sport and due to time constraints with his work he decided to concentrate mainly in One Loft Races. His success has been quite staggering. In 2011 a direct child from this pair won 1st prize in the

R.P.R.A. One Loft Race winning £20,000 and incredibly another direct child from the next round of youngsters was sent to that years South Africa Million Dollar Race and won the Car in a Hot Spot Race..

The success continued with many eye catching performances from the offspring in further generations when crossed with another of our birds that Phil purchased ‘Lady Orlando’ bred from our great ‘Hannibal’ cock when paired to a daughter of Co and Piet Verbree’s  ‘Super Champion Orlando’ when he was coupled to his full sister ‘Sheila’ herself a 1st Provincial winner…

The latest top result down from these birds is the winner of 1st Open in the National Flying Clubs race from Messac on 21st June 2014 raced by Mr and Mrs Mabin of Buckfastleigh. This blue yearling hen GB13N45861 was bred by Phil Bond and was a gift to club mates  Mr and Mrs Mabin. She won this race by more than 40 yards per minute from 6,393 birds entered.

This would be the first of two classic races won by the ‘Super Champion Orlando’ bloodline of the Verbree’s within a few weeks as Mr Tony Whitehouse won 1st Open MNFC Vire four weeks later also containing some of the same blood…

Runner up in Section A in the same race was previous NFC winners Fred Hall and Daughters of Brighton with a roundabout cock containing on one side Jackson and Andrews Hofkens bloodlines and on the other side a hen bred by his friend Steve Radcliffe of Skelmersdale from a son of our old super breeding hen ‘Gerrie’ (daughter Kleine Dirk’) when coupled to a daughter of their own top breeding pair down from ‘Hannibal’,’Marita’,’Figo’ of Verheyen and ‘Golden Nugget’…

Many congratulations to all involved…
