The Up North Combine Maidstone Young Bird Classic took place on Saturday 22nd September 2012. The birds were liberated at 08.00 into a north west wind that turned variable en-route and it proved a testing race for many.
Davy Barron and Son of Ashington clocked the first sixteen arrivals to their loft with the first bird covering the 285 miles in a little over 6 hours and all sixteen were clocked to record velocities from 1343 to 1313 y.p.m… maybe he should have clocked more birds as their final result was fantastic.

Their first bird and 1st Combine winner was from a very special son of our Caliph x Poppy. This cock together with his full brother also owned by Davy and Son are really super producers for them at the highest level. It is well known that they share their stock loft with their pal Dennis Blakey of Trimdon Village and Dennis also has raced magnificently well with the same lines.
Caliph was bred by Marijke Vink of Mooekhoek and is a son of Reza her famous racer that was sold to Kijima in Japan for €84,000 in 2005. He was considered one of the greatest middle distance cocks ever with his results of 1st Chantilly 10.589 birds ~1st Peronne 29.332 birds ~ 1st Chantilly 21.892 birds ~ 2nd National NPO Chantilly 17.818 birds ~ 5th Niergnies 5.607 birds. Reza was bred from Marijke Vinks famous couple ‘Tips’ and ‘Geschelpte Kannibaaltje’ that also bred ‘Drum’~’Dutch Master’~’Farah Diba’ and many other real supers. To breed Caliph, Reza was coupled to a daughter of the Olympiade Long Distance World Champion ‘Aviator’ bred and raced by Van den Heuvel Brothers and now owned by Ganus Family Lofts. Caliph was coupled to ‘Poppy’ one of our best breeding daughters we have owned of Dirk Van Dykes legendary ‘Kannibaal’.
The dam of Davy Barron’s Combine winner is from another top class line they own from their and Dennis’s good friends Patrick and Rene Vervloesem of Belgium. The ‘007 Hen’ line has been fantastic for them when crossed with most bloodlines.
Second pigeon timed was from a Vervloesem line ‘007’ cock when coupled with a direct daughter of our ‘Drum’ and ‘Gerrie’. Third bird was again from a Vervloesem ‘007’ cock when coupled to a son of our ‘Hannibaal’ x ‘Genie’ when he was paired to Dennis’s ‘1st Up North Combine winner ‘Controversial Queen’.
Once again our very best wishes and congratulations go to the partnership on another devastating performance.
